Is it normal for a BN to hide on the day and come out at night when you first get them? Ive had a BN for 4 days and he/she only comes out at night. So is this normal and how long does it normally last for?
Thanks in advance :)

does it have bristles? I've heard the males hide more than females which openly roam the tank. My fry are active, but there is nothing in my tank to scare them.

The bristlenose's aren't strictly nocturnal, they'll be out and about eating and cleaning all day long.......as long as nobody comes near the tank!:grinyes: The minute I approach my BN tanks, everybody hides. It's perfectly normal. The young ones however could care less and are all over the tank all the time....until they are several months old. Then they also run for cover and hide when you approach the tank. I sit still like a tree in front of the tank and as long as they see no movement from me....they all come back out again. A lot of other plecos do not come out during the day at all, even when the room they are in is quiet.

I would agree with Pinkertd. When mine are like that, I add food just as I turn out the lights and by morning it's gone. I have others that hide so much that the only way I know they are alive is to shake them out of their log or sneak in with a flashlight to spot them.

I have albino BN plecos and although they hide a little during the day, they come right out and swarm as soom as I drop algae wafers in the tank and it doesn't really matter if lights are on or off. They seem to notice the person who feeds them and become aquainted with you after a while. Mine are obviously old enough to breed, even though I didn't think they were. I actually found a bunch of babies swimming around the other night when I came home from work.

Yeah mine hide as well when lights are turned on but they come out. Both my females will stay out munching the male on the other hand stays hidden. My Papa Panaque is always on the bottom of the driftwood lights on or off thats just his spot. My Ptery's normally dont mind the light. My L114 is a vampire if there is light its running for cover. I have to check his cave i made from time to time to see if its still alive. Nice pleco but do regret buying it since I never see it.
