hey there,

i had the same problem of just a akward tank. I'd do this...

Invest in a nice light, and a DIY CO2 injector. find a really nice piece of driftwood for the center, and have symetrical live plants on both sides. I'm in the process of doing this, and it looks great already!

Another little thing i did which the fish (especially my abused beta) love... I got 7 bushles of anachris, and created a little forest do the right of the driftwood, then i bought a holllowed out log of driftwood (used for hermit crabs) and put it in the anachris. they love it in there!

I think it looks cool right now, except for the thick gravel layer. Ditch the UGF and try a sand substrate w/ some rocks/driftwood and more plants?

I think it's in the wall so you can look at it from both sides? If not, try a black background and like Tando said, add a centerpiece fish.

What often dignified said about the sand substrate was a good idea, then get some sort of centerpiece, and put plants in front and behind it so it looks good from both sides. I think its neat being able to see it from both sides because then you can see whats going on "behind the scenes"

Yeah it looks like it's a tank seen from both sides- so aquascaping is important. PLanted tanks usually work best with those tanks. But with planted its hard to get away from the 'community' fish. You could get a couple of cichlids, a schooling fish, and a bottom schooling fish. That would allow you to add more plants and 'fill' out the tank a bit.

Remember to leave a 'window' in the tank where you can see right through to the other side, which will create a cool effect.

no change in changing the substrate or filter, they love that when they medicate, they just turn off the fluval and leave the UGF running. and i dunno about you but i hate sand, the poop just sits there on it and looks at you :) but thanks for teh suggestionson the big drift wood, ill look into that! i tryed a few silver dollarts in it, but they hated it cuz they dont like the spot light, they were alwyas hiding, how about some madagascar rainbows?

I personally would throw a CO2 system on there, add a bunch more plants and maybe upgrade the lighting depending on how much you have now. AND FOR GOD SAKES!! RAISE UP THAT WATER LEVEL! I cant stand to look at tanks with that unsightly crud above the water line!! The tank looks like its had a good start, just needs a few improvements

what are the dimensions on it? Do you have any idea of what species you want or are you up for anything?

I think it looks cool now. The only thing I might do is raise the water level and add a school of fish that like to hang at the top. It looks bare up there. Maybe some zebras?
