I bought this little fishy from my LFS. They don't know what it is and they have 6 of them. I believe it is a female dwarf cockatoo cichlid. please let me know for sure.

I'm not that knowledgeable on Apistos, but it looks like a female Apistogramma cacatuoides. Or what you're referring to as dwarf cockatoo cichlid.

she is in breeding colors as well. They probably had a male there too.

Thanks. She is in a 10 gallon, but will be in 29 gallon next week. I just wanted to make sure she was healthy. She will be going in with a dwarf honey gourami and panda cories. Right now it's a medium gravel substrate with live plants. However she has taken to that cave/flower pot. That is hers and no one is allowed in there. She doesn't harm any fish/frog she just chases them out and as long as they stay out she is fine with them. I don't know the ph at the moment but I'll tell you later.

Also there were only females in the tank, I swear. I did research and only bought her because I was 85% sure of what she was. If they had males I would have got one. They had them in a tank with demon fish. The lady sold me this fish for $5.00 canadian because no one was sure what they were and they weren't selling, where the other cichlids were $17.99 and up. I was pretty happy. I know the males are really pretty, but I think she is awesome, and love how she hovers at the front of the tank checking me out while I watch her.

I actually really love the females as well. The yellowcoloration when in breeding dress is just beautiful
