View Full Version : Mexican pufferfish species?

Does anyone know the type of pufferfish found on the Pacific side of Mexico? It's blue with small white lines shaped like squares. I'll have a picture up soon. I can't find similar pictures anywhere on the web.

That is a stars and stripes puffer, if thats any help?

It was an intense blue, and the white was thinner and more maze-like.

This isn't much like your description, but it's the species I see most commonly when diving in Baja.

By the way, where were you diving in Cabo. We usually dive off La Paz, which suits us a little better, but we occasionally make a run to the cape.

I didn't dive, they were hanging out with tons of other fish at the marina rocks in Cabo San Lucas. I saw two of the intense blue's, and a few uglier grey/orangish ones. There were so many different fish.

Could it be the Blue Boxfish (Ostracion meleagris)? Here is a photo:

That is a nice looking fish though! It was closer to Mogurnas
