I've just recently started keeping cichlids. I have 4 German Red peacocks, and 7 yellow labs. I've been feeding them the omega one super color flake. Is there anything better to feed them and also where can I buy this food in bulk? Thanks
I feed my fish Captain Bob's S.O.S. Six Color Flake. I think it's better.

There is no one "best" food, particularly when you're talking about two species of fish that eat such different diets as yours. For your Peacocks Mysis Shrimp would get my nod, although variety is always a good idea except in the case of obligate feeders. For your Labs Nori sheets or better yet algae covered rocks is the ticket.

Thanks for all the information! It looks like everyone has their favorite's. That tell's me that the cichlids will thrive on many different types of food. Now about buying food in bulk, any ideas?

There's a vendor in the classifieds section here who sells NLS in 5# buckets for a good price.

Obviously a varied diet is the bet, but my for my SA/CA cichlids, I have to say Hikari Gold is the best.

Go with the green.
Meaning Veggie based foods and algae sheets along with weekly days of Daphnia and/or Mysis.
I use HBH algae wafers/7 or 8 Veggie Flake and NLS Cichlid Formula.

Your Peacocks will do much better eating a vegetarian diet suited for the Labs than the Labs will do eating a meat-based diet.
I just cut up an earthworm into three pieces and fed it to my convict cichlids. They devoured it.

IMO NLS is my favorite food for africans, no other food is needed it has all the nutriment your fish needs already in it.

I guess NLS stands for New Life Spectrum, right? That's what my LFS dealer recommended and really, there was a noticeable boost in colors and growth when started using it! My cichlids tend to eat smaller foods than some of your monsters here, but I can recommend Thera +A from NLS for the basic feeding. I'm not sure if that is available in bigger sizes for lagre fish. For treating the fish with something special I use freeze dried tubiflex and mosquito larvae atm.
