I have an emperor 280 on it now and it just doesn't seem to be cutting it.. So i found a Brand new emperor 400 filter on ebay for 50 bucks shipped so i jumped on that... You can't overfilter a fish tank can you?? Also would it be best to put my biowheel from my 280 into the 400 when i set it up???

I am guessing you ment remove the 280.. yes i am going to remove the 280 and just use the 400... I plan on getting a 90 or 125 gallon in about 4 months so i will probably use both then.. but for now i am just going to stick with the 400.. i think it should be plenty for my 37 gallon don't ya think?

would this be the wrong time to tell you that bigalsonline.com sells new emperor 400s for $39.99? hehe, but it's a great filter. never had any problems with it, and i'm satisfied with its glorious filtration ability and huge capacity for extra stuff.

Wow! you were right. Emporer 400's are about $69-$79 here. I was thrilled to get a used one for $31 on ebay. Oh well, I guess I'll have check big al's on my next purchases. Kyle

Yeah, transfer the established media+biowheel from the emp 280 if you're not going to run them both.

Is there any particular reason why you think the 280 wasnt doing its job? Were there any detectable ammonia or nitrites? Was there alot of "stuff" floating in the water? An emperor 280 should filter a 37 gallon aquarium just fine under normal conditions (ie: no over feeding, etc).

My ammonia was off the charts for about 3 weeks.... I added a small 5 gallon filter to the tank and it has started to come down.. we will see if the 400 works.
