I think I have some hair algae. It is attached to a few of my plants. My ottos do not seem to eat any of it. What can be done before it gets out of hand?

I too had the dreaded hair algae...it started with that nasty brown crap(diatoms) and after my pleco at it all, it progressivly turned into green hair. I stepped up my water changes from once a week to twice a week and from 15% to about 35% and ive noticed a dramatic decrease in the amount thats been growing.

sometimes cherry barbs will eat it, flying foxes are supposed to dine on it, check your phosphates that control them, there is a new product called phosvec by teh sera company, its great!

Add more plants and some Amano Shrimp. Worked like a charm for me.
