I am able to bring fish to The All Aquarium Catfish Convention (http://catfish2010.com/) this SATURDAY October 23 in Fairfax VA.
PLEASE tell me if you need a heat pack in shipment, they are $1 and I will use them if you tell me in the comment box when making payment.
The temperatures here are getting to the point where I feel most comfortable shipping fish predominantly express again. Priority is no live arrival guarantee on fish, though I have not had problems yet. With the weather getting cooler, its safest for the fish to consider Express shipping please.
The rams will not be available for another week, I need to be confident in their health as wild caught fish and my conscience won't let me sell them this week.

Would it be too much to have:
1) Dwarf zebra or Green babaulti or Black babaulti
2) Amano
3) Cherry red
4) Malawa
in a 28G tank?
Also, could I trust them with two L144 BN (my glass cleaners since I can't keep snails), and would any of these be more sensitive to residual dewormer than the cherries and amanos- I've heard mixed feedback about CRS.
Also, is local pickup an option? I'm doing a trip to/from Pittsburgh soon.
Thanks!

They should all do fine. Most shrimp are not sensitive to the dewormers but snails sure are. They will be fine with your blue eyes

Sorry, forgot to mention local pickup is ALWAYS available for a 10% discount :)
Shipping estimate would be:
$35 express or $12 priority based on a 4# weight (including styro and heat pack)

Do you have to pay those people(( The All Aquarium Catfish Convention (http://catfish2010.com/))) just to get in to buy your fish?
I don't get it...sorry...lol
NVM, would be cheaper to pay shipping than gas I'm sure.
Can you do USPS Medium box with heat pack for the 8 Rams?
msjinkzd
10-20-2010, 1:29 PM
No, you don't have to pay unless you attend speakers :)
I can consider priority, but really for wild rams I would spring for express. To VA, it will probably be like $18 for express and totally worth the quick shipping.

Is there a noticeable difference in the colors of Boraras merah vs. B. brigittae?Pictures always seem to show merah as not being as red, but I can't find any brigittae!
How much would shipping be for 8 habrosus to 91766?
msjinkzd
10-20-2010, 7:49 PM
merah are not as solid body red, but they are still pretty vibrant. They are also much much more outgoing than alot of the microrasboras who often tend to hide.
Shipping to you is much more pricey, $15 for priority or $35 for express :(

i may hold onto them until after surgery. I hate to be a pain, but I only ship out stuff that I am 100% positive is healthy. I could never send out fish if I had any doubts as to their health :(

Hiya Rach. I would like the following if available:
20 Rummy Nose Tetras
8 Habrosus
7 Otos
3 Red Spot Nerites
Pair of Rams when they are available
I'd like a couple of Anubias if you have any, and maybe a small quantity of any other plant that would be appropriate for SA tanks. Let me know the price per plant and I'll let you know how much I would like.
I知 going to put those Rummies and Habrosus in a 40 gallon breeder, and will put two of the Nerities in with them. I have some Ramshorns and MTS for that tank already.
When your Rams are available I want a male and female for this tank, but I知 in no hurry. If you need to wait until you致e had your knee surgery and you are well enough to start shipping again that will be fine with me.
I think that once I can add the Rams to the 40 breeder then that tank will be fully stocked. (maybe some Pomacea diffusa down the road)
I知 going to put the Otos and one Nerite in my 20 long. I have some Otos and some Ramshorns and MTS in there and was thinking about adding shrimp. The substrate is black with black background and will be heavily planted, when everything fills in. Do you think Snowball or Green Babaulti would look prettier in this tank?
I壇 like about 4 or 5 shrimp so I壇 like your opinion on which ones to get from you. I知 leaning towards the Snowball, thinking that white would be pretty against all that black, but do you think the Green Babaulti would be best?
If I get Snowball can I later add RCS, when you have those, to that tank or will they cross breed and revert back to the natural colors?
Eventually, I want to have something else with a lot of color in this 20 long. I知 getting requests here, by my household, for more colorful fish, lol.
Shipping to 76022. Please pm me with totals. I want the safest, fastest shipping for these guys. Heat packs, too, if that is a good idea.
I'm still hoping that the shipment date on my order can be among the last of the shipments you make before your surgery, but more importantly I want this to be convenient for you and your schedule.:)

Is the date drawing near for rachel's appearance on "Chopped"?* In that case let me call dibs on a couple-three akysis....the SO, who had sworn he was never again adding fish, happened to catch mine on one of their rare public outings and decided he needed some more groundskeepers.
Will place official order PM after wrestling with my conscience over whether I can squeeze in just one more variety of shrimp. And also contemplation of tomorrow's paycheck. :)
*it's a joke, "Chopped" is a cooking show not a medical one. I would have said something snarky about "House" but I think about a third of the patients on that one don't survive so that would be a bit tacky even for me.

Either would be stunning.

If I get Snowball can I later add RCS, when you have those, to that tank or will they cross breed and revert back to the natural colors?
Snowball will hybridize with RCS, but Green babaulti will not. The babaultis are safe to keep wiht any of the neocaridina without risk of hybridization so are a great choice if you want more than one species of shrimp in the same tank. Malawa are another good option, but they are less "flashy" than the others I have available.
Eventually, I want to have something else with a lot of color in this 20 long. I知 getting requests here, by my household, for more colorful fish, lol.
You could put the habrosus in there (they stay under or around one inch) and add something like chilli or phoenix rasbora (neither eat shrimp as they are much smaller than adult shrimp when full-sized).Other options depend on how much planting is in there and your goals for the shrimp population (do you want alot of hte young to survive, do you just want a constant supply of shrimp, or not concerned).
Shipping to 76022. Please pm me with totals. I want the safest, fastest shipping for these guys. Heat packs, too, if that is a good idea.
No problem, express shipping is next day by noon to your location so that works out great. I can always use heat packs (as its chilly here).
I will get a total out to you today :)

I must give a plug for the Rasbora rubescens. I got a small group of them a while ago from Rachel and I must admit I wasn't impressed. Kinda a small clear/flesh colored fish with a hint of reddish color. Well, today I was walking past my tank and did a double take! What was that flash of lavender??? Lo and behold the Rasbora rubescens have colored up magnificently! The males now have a lateral glowing lavender stripe along the length of their bodies with peachy/salmon color below. Not sure if it's mating colors (they are chasing the females) or them just maturing, but they are stunning.

20 Rummy Nose Tetras
8 Habrosus
12 Otos (updated number)
3 Red Spot Nerites

If I decide to put Chilis or Phoenix in the 20 long I would want some plants typical to their part of the world, I think. Do you have Java fern? Java moss? I'd like Crypts, but they scare me.. I'm such a plant noob, but something else that would work with Chilis or Phoenix would be nice, and also in the 40 with the Rummies.
Do you have any Amazon swords for the SA tank? I think I would like a couple or three of the Anubias for each tank. I have plenty of wood for rhizome plants and have EcoComplete down under the sand for stems, so whatever you have will work, but I'm going to try to stay about 2.5 watts per gallon on lighting.

I don't carry Amazon swords since I learned through experience just how HUGE they get. I had one that took up about half of a 75g tank and grew out of the water. They just get tooooo big when healthy. I have some nice rotala that is really easy. I would get pics but my camera is still in the shop.

Not right now, but I can get more when I order next. I would put no less than 15-20. People don't seem to realize how truly TINY these fish are. Most people order 10-15, then send me a repeat order for that many again and then still consider getting more. They bunch very very tightly together in the tank and are really quite small and torpedo shaped. Their bioload is comparable to that of a dwarf shrimp, so you could easily put many more than 20 without space or bioload issues.

Msjinkzd who did you get your shellies from I am looking to diversify what will be my breeding shellies so I am trying to see how many different gene pools are available on AC so I can get some shellies to put into my 40g long all at once when I get some more $ to avoid mine being territorial about the tank. I got mine from DrgRcr. Also how much would 4 be shipped to 40372 with a heat pack? How about 6 with a heat pack? Also do you have any glolight tetras (Natural types look like orange neon tetras) if so how much are they. Can you still ship priority here? I really what some more shellies preferably adult breeding size to go with my older ones that should be getting ready to breed, but I may have to wait on them for a bit.

Hmm.. now i'm confused. When they display, all their colors seem pretty much the same, but when they don't display, one of them is the dull in body color.
Can you help sex them? The first picture are definitely 2 males, I think.

I found this on the internet just now and thought I would post this not sure how accurate it is, but I thought it might help. Best of luck.
You can differentiate the males very easy from the females. The female Betta simplex are rather simply brown colored with small black and white points in tail and backfin. Only the anal fin is colored at the ends, easily bluish. The males are more intensely colored in comparison. The body is rather red-brown and on the gill is intensely green-blue. The anal and tail fin pull through two intensely radiant blue and black 'ribbons'. The fin points shine remarkably white. Also the head, as typical for mouthbrooder fighting fishes, is more powerful with the male than with the female.

they do sure all look like males. When I picked them out, one was totally female in appearance. She had no coloratoin other than a little on her anal. Perhaps it was a submissive male. I had, at the time, full confidence in my sexing.

I checked on the bettas again, and the only prospective female has the same coloring fins as the males, but the body is duller in color.

Are you going to do another order before your surgery?
msjinkzd
11-01-2010, 3:58 PM
I meet with the docs on Nov 10 to discuss total knee replacement as I have had so many major surgeries on my knee so far.
This week I did order apistos, furcatas, amanos, and calico bn.
Whether I order or not again will depend on what the docs say on the 10th. If surgery is not for a few months, I will. If its ASAP (as I hope), then I won't :)

It was great getting to meet you Saturday! All the little ones are doing great in the planted tank. I should have had the foresight to get some Shellies while I was there for my other tank, but of course I got too excited. So could I buy 6 of your Shellies?

I'm interested in a bag of the indian almond leaves and 20 alder cones. How much would shipping be to 78240 (cheapest method you're willing to do)?

If I decide to put Chilis or Phoenix in the 20 long I would want some plants typical to their part of the world, I think. Do you have Java fern? Java moss? I'd like Crypts, but they scare me.. I'm such a plant noob, but something else that would work with Chilis or Phoenix would be nice, and also in the 40 with the Rummies.
I have both java fern, narrow leaf java fern, and java moss.
Quote:
Do you have any of the Chilis? The Phoenix look very pretty, but the Chilis are stunningly beautiful. What do you think would be a good number for either of these in a 20 long?
Not right now, but I can get more when I order next. I would put no less than 15-20. People don't seem to realize how truly TINY these fish are. Most people order 10-15, then send me a repeat order for that many again and then still consider getting more. They bunch very very tightly together in the tank and are really quite small and torpedo shaped. Their bioload is comparable to that of a dwarf shrimp, so you could easily put many more than 20 without space or bioload issues.
Do you think 30 or 40 would be too many Chilis in the 20 long? I could put the Habrosus in there with them, but would probably not have the Otos in there with them. I'd put 2 red spot nerites or 3 maybe, and some snowball shrimp in there with them (however many you think would be good).
I'm a little worried about my flow in there. I have a Fluval 204 with the outflow just at the surface, and planned to also keep a Whisper 5-15 in there, just to have at the ready with beneficial bacteria for a QT or HT. Do you think that would be too much current for those tiny fish? I've read they like very little current in the tank.
If I could have that many Chilis in the 20 long I'd put the Otos in the 40 gallon breeder with the Rummies and cut the number down to 6 or 7 Otos.

you know, I am not in a rush especially since they came in sick. They are eating me out of house and home with great color. I was suspicious they might be starting with ich, so I salted them. So far, they all look clear but I want to make sure.
Shipping is stressful enough, especially on a fish that likes really warm water. I am not going to rush it and have them not do well with shipping.
I know people are excited, and trust me, I could use the money but I have to trust my instincts :)
