View Full Version : Will my Swordtail's tail grow back?
I think one of my new Gouramis but off his tail. :( :sad
It's broken, but not completely off, it's pretty sad. :shake:
When I first put the Gourami's in, the Swordtail was picking on one of them for the first day or so. Then I wake up to find his tail hanging off, and the Gourami has a few nips on his back fin.
Will it grow back? Or should I take out the swordtail or the gourami? Or hope they can get along now?
Also...should I try to net him, and get the broken part off, or just leave it on?

if there is any fin left of the tail yes it will grow back,
from what I know swordtails can be pretty scrappy and gouramis don't back down either so unless they are respecting each other now I would move to separate them just so things can heal up if not permanently

And don't lose hope. I know someone who almost euthanized a tiger barb after its entire tail was bitten off....and just updated us that it has grown back! Nature works in mysterious ways...:)
What size tank is it? And what kind of gourami? And do you have another tank you could move the swordtail to?
I went and bought a small 2g tank, that i could use as a Qt later *shrug*. The main tank is a 20g.
I put the gourami in there temporarily, and i might give that whole tank to my g/f with the gourami in it.
His "main" tail is still there, just the sword part was bitten off. He's swimming about freely now that the gourami is gone.
The one separated is a normal Dwarf Gourami. There's also a powder blue dwarf gourami in the big tank, but it's peaceful. (i think it wants to be a Zebra Danio...it looks like it's trying to school with them.  )
Everything's good. Thanks :D

Yeah I wouldnt add that gourami back to the swordtail tank as they obviously dont get along/aren't compatable.
His tail will grow back eventually, provided his base is in-tact and nerves aren't too damaged...;)
