anyone use them before? i 'm looking for my next filter. how is it compare to penguin made by marineland?
to put it bluntly, they suck!
i have a tetratech 500 i mistakenly bought thinking it was the newest greatest thing. it has been a temperamental nightmare as far as adjustments go and that was just the beginning.
do yourself a favor and buy an emperor..... www.bigalsonline.com
it's the slightly more advanced version of the penguin, the penguins weakness is it doesn't have spraybar driven bio-wheels. eventually they may jam.

It looks well built, but looks can be deceiving. I would recommend for a small tank either a penguin or an aqua clear. For a larger tank, I would go with either an Emperor or an Aqua Clear.

The Tetratech filters are noisy.... gulp.... gulp..... gulp.... That is when you can get it adjusted properly.

Heres my personall opintion on them...ive used Aquaclears, penguins, and a couple other brands and tetratec(or whisper series) in all honesty are not that bad of filters. Ive had 3 different ones all different sizes and they have been pretty reliable except for 1 that i had not power back up after a power outage once(only happened once and never again) but thats becuase it was dirty i think. They are pretty quiet...i used to have 2 of their biggest ones on a 55 gallon in my bedroom and never heard them. For the money there are far superior filters out there, but if i got one for cheap or free i would not hesitate to use it on a tank. I would never use one on a tank bigger than probably 55 though. Bottom line: There simple, easy to use, usually quiet, easy to clean, but if your paying full price for one, look elsewhere for a better filter.
