sponge color

quick question i noticed my sponges in my filters are turning like a redish brown color is this the color they should be???also when i clean my tank wondering if i should clean rocks and plastic plants to???t.i.a:confused: :confused:

Some of my sponges turn a bit red--mostly from the tannins in the drift wood. It's not a problem, just rinse them in dechlorinated water with each water change. You can clean the decorations if you want to, but unless they are unsightly, there's no reason to, really. They are colonized with beneficial bacteria that help break down ammonia and nitrites.

mine turns a pink color, i think its just from the food.
