i have a angelfish,it looks older, its actually pretty big.it used to eat fine when i got it,now it hasnt ate anything in weeks and refuses any type of food.is there a quick fix to this,i dont know what to do,medicine might be out of the question because it probably wouldnt be able to handle it,i dont know,if you could just give me some advice and let me know what to do,id appeciate it.all the other fish in the tank eat fine.

Um, not a lot to go on there sv. How long have you had the fish, where did you get it, did they give you any indication of how old the fish was at that time? How big is the tank, what other creatures share the space, how long has it been set up? Got any measurements on your water parameters lately? How often do you do water changes or other maintenance and how recently?

If the angelfish really "hadn't eaten in weeks" it would most likely be dead now. It's eating something, just maybe not the food you put in at the time you feed it. Any other options, any chance he's living on fry or eggs of tankmates? Angels can be deadly carnivores when they get the chance.

As always, pics would help. Best wishes.. :)

Definitely need more detail....

That sucks but Xan is right more details are needed to help you out.

its in a 55 gallon tank with other angelfish,i belive theres 4 pairs in my tank, but they all get along fine.water is clear all the time,i do water changes, filters are changed when they have to be.it looks at the food, and tries to eat it,but it spits it out.it seriously hasnt eaten in almost a month.its poop is white, like long pieces of string, but the rest of the fish i have exhibit no problems at all,and they all eat fine and are normal.i know one of these days itll die,but im just trying to think what i could do to possibly save it.its ashame,it use to be really big,and still is,but i can see it lost its size, its not a altum, but i think just a old striped angel full grown.water temp is always 80

Weird. Have your recently changed food?

you believe there are 4 pairs...?? 4 pairs in a 55, if breeding is called stress...

how often are the water changes and what size...??

what is filters changed when they have to be..??

their poo shouldn't be white...

what are the water parameters from a good liquid test kit...??

I wish Mel20_20 was around ...in her absence though all I can suggest is this: If there is any way humanly/financially possible to do it get this fish into an isolation tank. A 10 or even a 5g if that's all you can do; this is going to be the only occupant and it's not going to be for very long. Don't worry about cycling it as you're going to be doing WC on it every day anyway. A tank, a dechlor, a heater and you're set.

The options seem to me to be ( 1 ) he's not eating because he's old and he's going to die soon no matter what you do; (2) he's not eating because he's got parasites and for whatever reason he's the only one showing symptoms, (2b) same as 2 except disease instead of parasites, or (3) he's getting out-competed not just for food but for even trying for food. Dominance structures can be complex.

Not to be all tank-Nazi about it but if I read your figures correctly you have either 8 or 9 adult angelfish in a 55g tank (you said "4 pairs" but did not make clear if he was a member of any of the pairs or outside them all). That's kind of a lot it seems to me. They may have just selected him as Tail-End Charlie of the tank.

in any case getting him out of there gives him complete control of whatever food you put in, and removes him from any stressors he's getting in his current community. Best to remove that possibility before you start dosing him with medications, and having him in isolation will make that easier if you do get a definite diagnosis of an affliction.

the 4 pairs i have, interact with each other fine, rarely fight, and at nighttime, each pair has its own spot, one pair will be in the upper left corner, one pair will be in the middle at the bottom of the tank, one pair will be to the far right, its actually really weird,i feel bad about my one thats dieing, ive basically come to the conclusion that its probably really old,it looks it.definately full grown, biggest angel ive ever seen

i may not follow how other people take care of there tanks, ive kinda deveolped my own system, the filters like once a week, get rinsed out, every few weeks,i change them.the only time ive had sick angelfish was when i first started having them i didnt know what i was doing, and that was a few years ago, since then,i havent had any illnesses or major problems.
