I bought a bunch of fish the other day. On the tank at the store they were labled "Algae Sharks". However, when i search for information on algae sharks, nothing comes up, so i assume there is no actual fish by that name.

They are about 3-4 inches, and look very much like the fish shown here http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/gseemani.html
The ones I have seem to be a little wider though, they also all have darker round spots that are about 1/3 of an inch in diameter, one on each side behind the gil. All of the pictures I've seen of the Arius Seemani show them as silver, and I havent noticed that dark spot on their sides, but thats the closest thing I can find to what my fish look like. My fish are also silver, but much darker than any of the pictures I've seen of the aruis seemani, one of my fish is even nearly pitch black.

Anyone have any ideas on what these fish are?

pimelodus pictus? (at least I think thats how you spell the first part). At any rate, commonly known as a pictus catfish.

I do suggest you do research before you buy fish, however. You dont' want to end up with something like ID sharks when you've only got a 29g tank....

EDIT: Never mind, didn't realize that last part about one being black....

I agree, I should do more research first, but i saw them and i wanted them and the woman was willing to give me 4 for the price of 2... I also like to learn things the hard way apparently.

They are not pictus catfishs. They only have one spot on each of their sides, not little spots all over, and they dont have long whiskers like that.

But thank you for the reply.

Can you take them back?

Cool:) Just trying to offer suggestions:)
