I've done lots of searches, and there's so much conflicting information, I need help. I have a 75 gallon tank with an EBJD, Lemon Oscar, pictus cat in there as a grow out, I then have 7 angelfish. The oscar is about 4 inches and the biggest fish. I recently finally got a pair of angels, and was planning on getting rid of about 3 angels this weekend now that I know I have a pair. Before I got the chance, the pair laid eggs ( I believe this happened today). I also am pretty sure this is their first spawn. Should I just leave everything as is and let nature take its course? (I have a canister filter magnum 350 with a drilled tank, and nothing to stop the fry from being sucked up). I'm thinking I'd like to set up a 20 to 30 gallon tank, and put the slate the eggs are on in that, can I also move the parents over to let them take care of the eggs? Whats the best thing for me to do to raise the fish? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, this is my first time having BABIES!!!!

If its their first spawn chances are they'll easy the eggs.if left with the parents. I would move the slate to a 10g tank with an air stone so the bubbles go over the eggs then either add hydrogen peroxide every 24 hours or methylene blue to prevent fungus.
On that note youre going to have to choose what.you want. The oscar is all you could have in that tank if you kept him. Or you do the angels. Both will not work on there especially with a jd. Oscars grow an inch or more a month for the first year and jd aren't far behind for quick growth.

I know about the oscars and jack dempsey's growth. They are both young and are just growing out. I just said that I had them in there in case they are known to eat eggs or anything? I think I have good parents, I looked in there today, and the eggs are still there, the male was fanning them, and the female was chasing everyone away.

This is A LOT of work... I once thought like you with my breeding pair. A lot of water changes, just more than I want to do. So they spawn, protect, and then eat the eggs.

Ya'll are never going to believe this, I just had another two lay eggs on the opposite side of the tank on my heater. I've been trying to get a pair out of 8 angels for the past 8 months, and all of a sudden within 2 days I have two pairs that lay eggs. The one pair is a gold angel and black angel, the other one is a silver angel and black angel.
I've decided I'm going to get a sponge and put it on my filter system, and just hope for the best. I'm going to get rid of 3 angels just leaving the two pairs, then the oscar, ebjd, blood parrot, and pictus cat. Think there's any chance of getting some fry to survive? lol

probably not for their first spawns.. if they get stressed at all from other fish they will most likely eat them. if you want survivors move them to another tank but trust me its a lot of work! im growing out around fifty kribs from eggs and its water changes every day and feeding 4 times a day...

I went to a local reef expo for my 29 gallon salt tank, and when I came home all my eggs were gone. Hopefully there will be better luck with future spawns.

I think you are going to have issues keeping spawns in a community tank. Even if they do make it to free swimming fry stage, they are going to get picked off by all of the predators in there. To maximize your success, just take a known pair and put them in a breeding tank and let them do their thing without any interference.

Look around closely, because depending on what decorations you have in the tank, the babies might have hatched, and the angels might have moved them to a different spot. Once angel babies hatches, they are "wrigglers" and they have a little thread that sticks out the top of their heads and they use that to stick to surfaces. The parents will move them around as they please, so look, you might have wrigglers after all.
