Holy cow. I thought these babies were guppies when they were dropped on christmas day, but now its been nearly three months and they don't look like guppies. They look like red brick swordtails, I had one of those in the tank when the fry appeared. Some of them are the same size as the female guppy that just dropped a few weeks ago, but they are all solid red. I can't see any swordtails developed yet, but I thought they might be too young still.
I've not seen solid coloured guppies before, and the momma guppy had a yellow and black tail with a pale yellow body, while the daddy guppy had a pale yellow body and either a red and black tail or a yellow and black tail (not sure which guy got her first)
Could these babies be swordtails? I need to sell them soon and I need to be sure what they are. I'm really confused.

Could be, Swordtails are said to be as prolific as Guppies at times and are livebearers as well, I've never seen a solid colored guppy either, but guppies cover more colors than the paint mixer guy at home Depot. If every baby is the same color, I would hedge my bet on the swortail. Especially if there over 1/2" long and don't look like a guppy. the swords will grow as they get bigger.

The female sword they would have come from is about 2.5 inches long, these babies are all the same colour, solid red like the adult, and some of them are already an inch long, others still half an inch. (males and females?) This was my first drop and I was quite shocked when the guppies came and looked so different than these earlier ones did when they were born. I know these recient ones are guppies.
I'm going to search the web for solid coloured guppies, but I'm getting pretty sure that these are actually swords. Its weird though. I assumed they were guppies because the female guppy I thought they came from died the next day after swimming around vertically the day before. I thought she had died from dropping, but these babies just don't look like guppies to me.

Those are swordtails, Guppies fry are usually grey or yellowish in color.

Yes they are swordtails. I came to that conclusion this morning when I muoved 14 of them to the large tank where the adults are. They are the exact same colour as her. I hope to have them sold by next week then. I don't mind that they aren't guppies. Swordtails will bring in more badly needed money and store credit than the guppies will.
