I picked up 5 little "green cories" from a LFS this past Friday and they are all happily scurrying around the QT. Now this LFS doesn't label very well so I'm not even 100% sure they are cories. It makes no real difference to me whether they are Brochis or Corydoras since the requirements are the same as far as I know. It's just that if I were to get more, I'd like to get the same species.
So, is there a way that I can identify which I have? I tried to take pictures but the QT isn't the best setting for the camera and these guys are very wiggly.

Corys have 6-8 dorsal rays and Brochis have 10-12.

Well that's easy then. I can't get them to sit still enough to count but it looks like much less than 10-12. Thanks!

Go to www.planetcatfish.com (http://www.planetcatfish.com) and look at the pictures of corydoras aeneus and brochis splendens.

With Jpap's help I was able to identify them within minutes of posting the question. They've grown since then and I'm still positive that they are cories.

i have four bronze cories and one emerald. one thing i've noticed with my bronzes is that they have a short 'gold-ish bar' across their back near the dorsal fin. not sure if that is common amongst the species, but all four of mine have it whereas the emerald does not. my emerald (female) is also more than double the size of the bronzes.
