I'm new at keeping angels. I've had one for about 3 weeks and decided to get another. Of coarse the lfs said it would be ok to have two in a 20 gallon. They are in there with some cories and small gouramis. About 10 min after I added the second one they were LIPLOCKING and the original angel is chasing the new guy around. They are both veil angels. The new one is a little bigger but the little one is the instigater. What does this mean?

The little one is trying to stake his claim in the tank. They are fighting over territory and it may not end, if you can, separate them. ~

Yeah, the little one is an aggressive little guy. He hasn't stopped chasing the new one around. I'm almost finished cycling a 10 gallon. As soon as it's done I'll separate them. Is there a chance after separation for a while that they can be reintroduced without fighting?
I've had breeding pairs of angels liplocking each other. Doesn't necessarily mean both are males. DD is right. The first to stake its claim already considered the new one as an intruder. A 20g though is not big enough for two to claim their space adequately.

Is a 20 gal adequate enough for a breeding pair? Can you force two to breed if they are the only fish in the tank?

Ok so I have an update and tell me what you all think. They still liplock on occasion and nip fins and chase each other but when they aren't they are right next to each other. Is this still territorial behavior???

Mine do the exact same thing, I don't ever see them fighting though, Just the bigger one is the instigator.
