Gravel?????

I'm new to this whole plant thing. My boyfriend gave me some of his plants for my ten. I have two that are still alive and doing well. I don't have any special light, gravel or filter. Now, I want to move up in this plant thing. :) I'm rather confused. I know I need better lighting, a canaster filter, and that's about it. I don't know about this CO2 thing. My boyfriend adds so much crap to his tank for his plants I think he kills his fish. So, do I need special gravel for plants? And anymore advice on this CO2 or what else I need to get started and be successful? Thanks for your help.

Get a modern compact fluorescent light fixture, with a shiny reflective interior. You'll get more light for the watts that you're paying for in your utility bill. Buy it on-line for a better deal, and consult with your Knowledegable Other about which one to get.

Light is the first thing you need. You may not need all those other tech supports yet. Or at all...

If you were tearing down and starting up a tank all over again, I'd suggest about 50% Flourite mixed with your present gravel (unless it's Pearlized Pink or something, eh...)
