I need imput from people that have Firemouths, all the books say that the firemouths are peaceful as long as they aren't spawning.
However I have seen on some boards people saying they are very agressive all the time, what is the truth from those with experience. Thanks for your help

I will not say FM is aggressive. It is just very pushy.

People that said they are aggressive...well, I would like them explain what is considered as "aggressive".

Thanks once again peifc, Your pix are all great, my Flags aren't quite that colorful, but I think they are young, the blue comes out, but haven't notice any red in the fins yet. What kind is your Severum. We seem to have similar tastes.

One thing that you always have to keep in mind is that aggression is a relative term with cichlids. They all are to an extent. Putting in a cichlid that really isn't considered aggressive into a non cichlid community tank. IE: tetras.
The fish will run rampent and terrorize everything.

Angels are well known for that.

As for firemouths. They IMO are lower end to middle of the pack when it comes to aggression. Above most of the smaller cichlids, but lower than most of the rest of the new worlds you can get in your LFS.
Yes every now and then you will hear about some killer firemouth that killed 50 foot long dovii's and then bit the arm off of it's 400 pound owner...blah blah... You get those stories about all cichlids. I have even told one about my killer salvini and it's taste for bigger meaner fish.

I have my firemouths in with severums and rainbow cichlids and other milder cichlids. No problems. I have also kept them with JD's and chocolates, even a texas for a while.

As I always say. It depends on the particular fish. For the most part if the tank has enough caves, hiding spaces and overall swimming area. There should be no problem.

The severum is called. Heros sp. 'Rotkeil'. Common name is Redhead or Red shoulder severum.

These aren't my only cichlids. I have more :D

BTW, the flag cichlid...it wasn't the standard kind. They are
F0 L. Curviceps from Santarem...I heard.
