So I've had this pair of angels, I'm hoping they are a possible breeding pair, for about a half a year now. They get along absolutely wonderfully! The larger of the two seems to be the leader, the smaller one follows it everywhere.. Its so cute! The larger is a black marble and the other I believe is marble as well but with silver and gray. I was hoping at some point they would start spawning because they seem very happy in the tank. Ive done research so I know what has to be done. I have a slate and an extra 25 gallon tank so I can seperate them if need be. The larger of the two is about 2 and a half inches tall (just the body) and the other is probably 2 inches with shorter fins, but was sick about a month ago so the fins deteriorated some. My question is how old are they normally when they spawn? I'd like to see some hope.. even if they end up being two females where one is taking on the males role. Any information would be awesome!

I would have no clue. I've got 7 Angels in a 90g and supposedly gotten 5 of them at or right before breeding age. I've seen nothing happen at all in the couple of months since they moved in. They all get along and I should have a mix of males/females, still nothing. My Green Corys have bred several times in the 1month I got them, I even have several different size babies, but nothing Angel-wise.
I've tried all sorts of things, cooler water, warmer water, more open space, better hiding, etc, nothing. Mine just don't want to.

Hope someone else can give you more help!

They will grow faster is the temp was higher (78-80) with more feeding and more WC.

I bought 3 marbles about 6 months ago for my 37g and within about 2 months 2 had paired up and laid eggs. As of today they have laid eggs 3 times but there's been no fry. After about 2 days they eat the eggs and go back to normal business. I'm considering setting up a temporary 20g and separating them out to see if they any better luck hatching the eggs.
I did remove the 3rd angel and put it in a separate community tank. I'm guessing it's just the luck of the draw as to whether they'll mate or not.
Good luck,
John

My temperature is kept at 80, they seem to like it higher.. and i feed them a small amount of crushed shrimp pellets, blood worms and some regular flakes twice a day.. they sure are little piggies!
Well I guess I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and hope they do something. Thanks guys

I use to breed them in the early 80's. My aunt had showed me how to tell the sexes apart. (She and my uncle had a fish farm from 1950-1980) Can't remember exactly which is which but it has to do with the distance the anus is from the fin in front of it. To condition I did water changes every day, raised the temp to 80-82 and fed heavy with tubifex, brine shrimp and the food formula that was in Innes' book with beef heart, liver, etc. Never failed.

Your fish will spawn when they are ready ,unless you know how to trigger them to spawn. We usually start by feeding our fish a high protein diet that consists of a quality flake along with a large amount of frozen bloodworms for a week or so, if this does not work we start doing large WC's ,we have found that our new pairs will spawn during a low pressure system , we love the rain as it gives us lots of new fish. you can also try adding some Almond leaves this will lower your Ph and this may trigger your fish to spawn:dance2:

When I was breeding Angels I would start off with the larger water changes, then add live foods and that was usually enough to trigger them. They usually got a good quality flake food with live food on occasion. When I wanted them to breed they got live food almost exclusively. Well live and homemade.
