I have a skimmer on it's way and right now I'm using a power filter to clean up my tank. Here's my question ... when I get my skimmer I am planning to run both it and the power filter for a week or 2 to make sure it's working properly. If everything goes weekk can I run just the skimmer and retire the powerfilter? I have 2 powerheads in the tank for surface turbulance and moving the water around so is if the skimmer is getting the junk out of then tank and I don't need the water circulation from the power filter then can I do without the PF? Thanks

The power filter can be put into storage or used to agitate the surface. I am actually running a Penguin 170 with media and an Aquaclear mini just for agitation. I am going to pack the AC with phosphate remover sometime in the near future. I dont even think i will be getting a skimmer if i can resist the high bioload.

A lot of people, myself included, have no filter aside from the skimmer. Especially nice in a reef, where you want all the little eggs, larvae and other boogers to feed the other inhabitants.
