cycling with frozen food?

Doing a fishless cycle in a 10-gallon QT

Instead of a dead, raw shrimp, can I just throw a chunk of frozen food in there and let it decay?

I'm going to "seed" the tank with a rock from an existing tank.

I'm not sure I need a whole shrimp for a little 10, but on the other hand, frozen food will break apart.

what do you think?
