I bought some xenia today and got it home and realized that on one end of the rock that it came on there are two aiptasia can i just dip the end in boiling water and kill it and scrap the remains off?
thanks,
Shane
I don't see how you could without hurting the Xenia. I'd give it a shot of boiling or chalk paste. That way you could limit disturbance to your xenia and get rid of the pest. It might take more than one attempt to get rid of the pest. Also in my experience where you see one there are more.
Hope this helps

I wouldn't dip it either--that may damage the xenia. Injecting boiling water would be risky, since it will disperse quickly. Kalkwasser paste injection should be easier--it will be easier to keep it away from the xenia.

You can buy the syringe at most LFS, or pick one up from a local pharmacy or vetrinary office. You don't need a sharp needle--the ones I've seen have a plastic tube with an angled tip. The kalkwasser usually comes as a white powder, and youmis water in to make a sludgy paste. Be careful with it, it is very caustic and can damage organism if it drips on them. It's easier to control than boiling water, though. For some, you may need to treat more than once.

Another thing to try is called joe's juice. I have tried in my tank have had great results in my tank. The aiptasia will eat this fluid and begin to disolve.

So far I have had no ill effects on any of the coral that I have in my tank. I have heard from many others with more coral filled tanks than mine, this stuff causes no ill effects. And the best part, it works like a champ. This stuff will disolve them with in the day, larger ones, it takes a little bit longer.
