Maybe I've finally lost my edge, but I can't find these things online to save my life.
And after all the glowing recommendations from RTR and JSchmidt I can't possibly go on prefiltering without them!

Where to buy, where to buy...

Just bought 2 from PETSOLUTIONS.COM with a larger order, week before last. Go to filters then sponge

Well- if both you and Jim recommend them I can't go wrong. Better work well, though!

I'm sure I said this b4 but...
When I used mine, I couldn't just disconnect it and bring it up to rinse it without a cloud of sediments coming off. This led to turning the filter off while vaccuming which still didn't prevent the problem entirely.
Either of you gentlemen care to offer a tip for getting around this so maybe I can use mine again? After I'm done messing around with baby swordtails anyway.

Thanks.

P.s. Just a potential "problem" you may want to know about Cearbhaill, though you probably have a solution too!

Mine doesn't release that much sediment unless I've let it go too long between rinsings. A little floats off, but I can live with it.

Ditto Jim's comment. Reduce the interval between rinses. If that is too short for convenience (several/most of my tanks), add supplemental mechanical filtration.

See, the slippery slope to multifiltering lies before you, shining in the sun...

Are you telling me once a week isn't enough? Oh, maybe because I only have an XP3 on my 90gal. And therein lies the "problem". Oh well...

Very good, Grasshopper. As always, the answer lies within you...

Not perfect but I've been using a plastic bag. I turn off the fiter and gently put a thin plastic bag around the filter max and bring it up to the surface and out of the aquarium. This works better for me than just taking it off.
I've got a 29 gallon so the water is deep which makes the problem worse. Get all the air out of the plastic bag on the way down first.
I've thought about leaving the filter on until I get the bag around but I haven't tried that yet.
Been using filtermax for about two months.
