If I have a stand where the top of it where the tank sits has one corner that is maybe 1/16 " lower than the rest of it, starting about 2" inside the corner, how can I level this out? Just so this is not confusing, the stand in general is level but the actual top is slightly uneven so that the front corner support of the tank does not sit completely flush with the top of the stand. I can send pictures if anyone needs them. SHould I try and place some very thin styrofoam underneath this corner?

First off is the tank stand metal or wood ?
In general a bent, uneven, twisted stand should be replaced by buying one or a new DIY one. It is important for the stand to be level. If not this could be a catastrophy.
Uneven tank stands cause the seams to stress while under great pressure possibly leading to the panels breaking or seams rupturing. Although trying to level a corner may be possible I would neaver take the chance of losing everything because of the stand. To me it's not worth the risk

Yeah, you need to use something compressable that will take up the space. I DIY-ed my stand and it wasn't dead flat all the way around completely so I used window felt weatherstrip from Home Depot. Others use the blue foam which I'm sure you could find by searching this forum.

The stand is not uneven just the flat top piece I screwed a corner down too far to it "dips down" about 1/16th, it is wood by the way. I was going to try some putty and sand it and/or weather stipping.

You could cerainly use putty and sand it after to even it out. The weatherstripping or foam would be adequate if it's only an inch or two that is off. If the tank is larger than 40gal, I would use weatherstripping or foam under the entire tank rim anyway to help distribute weight and prevent any stress points.
