I am new to the world of keeping tropical fish. I just got a 55g bow from tank and have ordered all of the acc. from Foster & Smith. The filter has been my biggest worry. I really wanted something that was going to last and be easy to use. I ordered a Eheim 2026 canaster along with all of the media that they recommend to get. Is this over-kill, or did I make a good decision?

Here is what I got:
55g bow fron tank
2026 Eheim Filter
200w heater
Tetra deep water pump
ect.....

Depending on how you stock the tank, the 2026 will likely be a pretty good match for your tank.

My 2026 is the best filter I ever bought, you can't even hear the thing running. The little valves they have so that you can remove the hoses without spilling too much water. Plus I can got like 3 months between cleanings and it doesn't take that long to clean. I have a 58 gallon by the way.

I'd say you went with a good filter choice. Been looking into one myself.

I also like mine. And I use a prefilter on the intake. Really lets me extend the time between filter cleanings.
