I recently rceived a new 29 gallon aquarium from my uncle. It has all kids of white stuff on the lid of the tank. I cant seem to get rid of it with water. How can i get rid of it? I don't have fish in it yet. I would just like to cleam up good so it looks nice and stuff. Thanks for all your help.

It sounds like mineral deposits. There is a spray you can get that takes the mineral scales off your hood and tank, and is supposedly non-toxic. I purchased some at www.thatfishplace.com It is called safe and easy aquarium cleaner. Check it out. It worked for me, you spray it on and let it set. Then you can wipe most if not all of it off.

Is the lid glass? If so, try a razor blade. This will usually remove most mineral deposits. But, if the deposits are left on the glass too long, the glass can be permanently etched.

You could send it to me! :D

Vinegar works for me.

I have to agree that a soak in vinegar would probably do the trick assuming the lid is salvageable. I actually saw a tank once that after the fish died the guy just let it sit there running and the lid became a part of the tank.
