I just got this nice green open brain on Friday and have been reading how they like to be fed after the lights go out, etc.
Well this one hasn't taken a scrap of shrimp in the 3 nights that I've had it. I try everything, even feeding during the day and it's just not interested. It moves the shrimp right off of it onto the sand. The feeder tentacles are so small, I don't know how they can hold onto anything. Could it just be still adjusting to my aquarium? In the mornings when I first turn the lights on, its really puffed up pretty big, which is a good sign I believe.
Anyway maybe I should try feeding another type of food? Maybe this one doesn't like shrimp. What else do the picky ones like?

Shrimp is very "non-soluble" when you first put it in. It takes a while to "break down."

Formula I cubes, and Formula II cubes are a great alternative in that you can feed them and they immediately break down, offering food intake of varying sizes.

You might want to minimize as much water flow in the tank as possible when trying to get the brain to acclimate to your feeding. That means unplug the powerheads momentarily. If you are having a problem getting the food to "land" properly, you can use a long clear tube to "target" feed the brain. HTH.

Ah, didn't realize that about the shrimp since everything else I've fed it to just eats it up. Thanks for the advice! I've actually given up on feeding it the past couple of nights hoping to let it get hungry.
I was thinking of getting a turkey baster and putting brine shrimp in it to squirt softly at the brain when the tentacles are out. But I have a question about the tenticles, they are very very tiny, more like bristles than tenticles. Is that normal or are they supposed to be larger?

correct me if I am wrong being very new to this but isn't it a coral which mostly tend to be a bit on the filter feeder size?

I wouldn't doubt it as mine isn't too interested in food that I try to give it, must be getting fed from somewhere.
For something that looks so much like a Brain it sure doesn't seem too smart! :D
I named mine "Stupid Brain"

The brain will filter feed, that is the premise of the Formula cubes which break down into particulate almost immediately. They also have mouths which will open completely and engulf harder matters of food. We used to target feed shrimp pellets. Super to watch 'em eat them!! :)
