:help: ok so, i wanna make this quick
. 75 gallon tank, sand substrate, about 250 gallons of aqua clear filtration (with several diff medias) driftwood, plants, rock caves, wood tunnels, the likes.
stocK:
1 gsp
1 firemouth
1 jack dempsey
1 bleekeri
1 salvini
1 texas
1 green terror
1 jaguar cidhlid
2 jewel cichldsi (one typical red, and the other turquoise)
two plecos
about 5 or 6 syno zebras,
and finally, one king spot botia
the water is at about 78/79 F. my heater broke...
ph is about 6.8, im tryna get it to 7.0 flat..
heavy lighting on the plants
DIY reactor co2 (cheap)
liquid carbon, and multi nutrient (for trace elements)
doing water changes about ever 4 or 5 days, taking about 20 gallons each time. water levels are acceptable i suppose
now for the good stuff
all these fish are still small, i know that its crowded, please dont tell me anything about that, i went thru an 18 page thread about it already.
anyways, the two jewel cichlids seem to have a relationship established. ive never qutie delt with fish that were coupling, or at least not to my knowlege, so i know nothing of the sort.
i know that theres a possibility that im only recognizing a relationship between them because they are the only same-species cichlids i have in the tank and they may just be more "used to" and "comfortable" with their own kind (granted that im unsure of wether the turqoise is a different species, or simply different color variation)... all other cichlids in the tank are completely unhappy with eachother.. but these two seem to almost.. have eachothers back so to speak?
sumtimes they roam together, but they will roam completely seperate at times, usually not too too far away though. but at times, when pressure of dominance is coming in from the other cichlids, they will dart away together in the same spot. ORRR at times ive noticed that they will attack a fish that is attacking the other jewel (meaning, the dempsey lunges at turqoise, and the red jumps into to defense or other way around as well).
they love to hang out right next to eachother in the corner actually. they scout the area out together sumtimes, i dont see wether one is more dominant of the other based on color considering that the variations of color cant be compared too sharply. however i can say the turqoise jewel is just as gorgeous as always, vibrant red topped with gorgeous full blue sheen. the red jewel has a hand ful of shiney scales but mostly he just glows that deep red, very vibrant.
in my eyes, id say that they are not showing any more or less dominace over one another based on looks and on social performance in the tank. on contrary they seem to be fond of eachothers company, even defensive of it...
could this be a mating pair??? is that possible between the variations or in the conditions of the tank? what color variations can be expected if they did mate? or would it be just red, or turqoise, or both for the fry? what should i do about helping them breed? id love give them their own tank, just want to know how!!
any advice is welcomed! thank you!
btw, sry, i know i said i wanted to keep this breif...
