Ben, did I get back to you?
I didn't see it. I'm going to go over to one of the other sections and oh and ah over someone's tan pics. Then I'll have enough posts to private message you. That might work better.

Can only guess how many things you are juggling. Making a note to myself to check in with you next week on the cories, as 60 approaches reminders are essential. Hopefully they will arrive healthy and I can combine them with a group of furcatas. Thanks for getting back to me.

are the rummy nose tetras different then the asian ones?

msjinkzd
07-26-2011, 11:36 AM
Asian rummynose are sawbwa resplendens, regular rummynose are hemigrammus bleheri (there are actually a few species called rummynose tetra that are from Brazil and Colombia)

I've suddenly got an outbreak of BBA and some other kind of gross, bubbly algae on my C. wendtii in my 20 long...how many Amanos do you think it would take to clean it up? Here's an old shot of the tank:
http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=142452&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1290623479

I am doing water changes and running carbon, hope that works. If not, I will rely on your little fellas to assist :)

msjinkzd
07-31-2011, 10:22 PM
Gosh, to really beat an algae infestation, you have to add a lot. Adding a dozen or so would absolutely help, but bba is not very palatable and it will be eaten last.

What I do is set up a small tank that is mainly bare with amanos. Then I add the effected plants to it to let them h ave at it. This is obviously not a solution to the cause of hte algae but certainly cleans the plants up.

Sids are sort of a sore spot at this point...but maybe in a few years if you're not too big to remember all us little folk ;)

On the other hand you might be seeing a pm from me soon with some shrimpies listed!

msjinkzd
08-01-2011, 12:13 PM
what happened, pappy??

jpappy789
08-01-2011, 12:19 PM
Total tank meltdown last spring towards the end of the semester. No idea what happened but I literally lost all my sids along with the harlies, BN, and otos within a weekend.

platytudes
08-01-2011, 1:03 PM
I think I'm going to get some ghost shrimp to see how the bettas in that tank react to shrimp. Right now there are 6 glowlight tetras, 6 silvertip tetras, and 2 female bettas (raised together from tiny fry, so they get along real well). If they leave the ghosties alone, I will put in an order for a dozen Amanos :)

I dont know much about snails. Are Tylo's burrowing snails. My son switched to black sand in his aquarium and I want something to help with gas pockets and to turn over the sand.

msjinkzd
08-01-2011, 3:25 PM
Not really, to be honest. The malaysian trumpet snails (that many despise, lol) are the best at sifting sand. I don't really have much else that would reliably do the job.

The red lips nerites like to go under too, but not enough for them to be considered sand sifters.

Whoa, I have been thinking about going back to clown killies! and I am also in a need of nerites at this time to do algae damage control!

Express would be $33, priority would be $11. As far as cherry shrimp with zebra plecos, the zebras will eat some. The issue is more if you want to breed l046, the shrimp will try and get the eggs and they can also be very very annoying to breeding plecos preventing them from getting in the mood when the shrimp populations explode.
