I wonder if the manufacturer will fix it under warranty?

Wow! You are lucky nothing happened to you. You should at least see what the manufacturer says. Could be good for a laugh at least. You should also go buy a lottery ticket with that luck...lol

They should. It's obviously a faulty material issue. Anything that can't stand up to 1.21 gigawatts... I'm just sayin

i would just tell them that you were fishing and it just fell apart and burst into flames. maybe they will give you some credit for trying. then again, they may replace it because it makes such an amazing story. do you have any other pics? how did the reel end up looking(if it were attached)?
