I could use some help!!!
Just bought tetra for my aquarium, It was called a fruit painted tetra, but they do not resemble the pictures of the painted tetra I have seen on the web. These are almost like glass fish, except, they are light pinkish salmon color, with large red spots under the eyes, eyes are black. You can see the spine which is a darker pink. Fins are long and clear as is the tail. Are these painted tetra???

Thanks for any information!!

"painted tetra" are fish that were dyed to get the different colors. There are likely serveral different species of tetras that are dyed and sold as painted. You'd probaby have to get the scientific name or compare it to common non-dyed tetras.

I have seen this done with white skirt tetras. Try to find a picture of one and see if it resembles the fish you have minus the pink color.

You simply have painted glassfish, dying is often done on glassfish, but what people don't know is -- glassfish do best in brackish water.

(misguided post deleted by the wetman)

http://www.ekkwill.com/tetras.html --I found the fish! Not dyed as I had suspected! An amelanic longfin mutant as I had guessed though...

Hey wetmanNY:

Go to WWW.ekkwill.com, the phototour.

Full Name - Blushing White Hi-Fin Tetra. Was also the only site that had Chocolate Chip Mollies on it. Another site called these tetra X-Ray tetra.
