I just got word that her basement is currently knee deep in water, and the post office she sends her package out from is also flooded out. If anyone's expecting to get a box from her, and hasn't already received word that it's en route, I think you're gonna be looking at a bit of delay. Let's hope this rain eases up before it starts putting grey hairs in everyone's favorite mohawk.

omg! Thanks for passing the news along Inka. Basement is the fishroom, is it not? Hope all their wiring is high, sump pump up & running and water levels outside the tanks lower than that inside.
you ever notice that every time a Lee comes north it causes awful damage in Pennsylvania?

I was just caught unawares. In the 6 years we have lived here, its always been a non-issue as we don't live in a low lying area. Between the wet summe,r the saturation from Hurricane Irene, and this stuff from Lee.....the ground is so saturated its coming up THROUGH the ground into the basement.
Now that I have a few sump pumps going, its not flooding like it was, its just holding steady. I am hoping the worst is passed......

Throw some White cloud mountain minnows on your basement floor! They should breed just fine in that rain water. :thm:
I know this is a terrible joke, but I am trying to lighten things up :)

I would be careful about being barefoot in that water. It appears to be turning your toes red.
Any help you need, just ask.

Seen this on FB, sorry about your troubles. We too are getting A LOT of rain, my basement is pretty much a spider hang out so I don't go down there very much but truth is I probably should just to make sure it isn't a swimming pool.

Rachel, I'm so sorry this is happening to you guys. :( How far are you from the river? I googled your house and I can see the river, not terribly far from you. I know the main issue is the extreme saturation of the ground where you are and with more rain coming.... oi vey!
I wish we had some of that rain; we are having devastating state-wide drought conditions here in Texas, and so far the wildfires are not too close to me, but we are gathering important papers and items we would need in case we have to bug out of our house.
Hang in there, Rach, and please be safe. Please keep us posted. I am, we all will be, sending positive thoughts and wishes your way.

OMG! How high above the water level is that bridge, under normal conditions?
msjinkzd

probably about 15' above teh water typically. This creek feeds into the susquehannah. They are both only a few miles from my home, though they are not a risk to me. As you said, its the ground saturation that is an issue. There is just no place for the water to go. That is why my basement is flooding, its coming up from underground.

I was just reading about all of the flooding online. Our house flooded in May 2010 when Nashville received about 12"+ of rain in about 48 hours. The creek behind our house flooded and we ended up with about 5' of water around the outside of the house with 2' inside. I hope you stay safe and the water goes down quickly.

I'm sorry about all that rain, Rachel! Our basement floor got wet, but not flooded, thankfully. The sun is finally out here. Hopefully all your tanks will be okay.

Hi Rachel - I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. We have had heavy flooding in our area as well, and a 12 year-old boy in my county was swept by the rising currents and drowned. I'm sure this has been absolutely devastating and I'm regretful to hear of the ruined photos, memorabilia, and collectibles; I am relieved and grateful to hear that you and your family are safe from any harm that could have resulted from this terrible, terrible weather. I predicted this in January, but it appears 2011 is a year filled with great adversity and dark happenings. Homeland Security has issued a warning for a possible terrorist attack this weekend -- I hope none of us will have to deal with that, but just wanted to warn you in case you have not heard. I want you to know that you and your family, and those affected by the floodings, are in my thoughts and prayers. Stay warm, dry, and be safe. Have a great weekend.
