WW,

My first FW aquarium book was The Natural Aquarium Handbook and I read it from cover to cover. It covers everything beginners should know, such as "beginner's plants", equipment, daily maintance, and problem-solving. There is also a section that gives a run-down about the different groups of fish. It even explains step-by-step how to do your first water change. That was a big one for me. :)

personally, love the Aquarium atlas editions, by Baensch, and Baensch and Riehl. have 1 and 2, getting 3 after I recover from Xmas expenses, and amazingly enough, when I was getting back into the hobby/obsession, the idiots guide to freswhater aquariums by mike Wickham is actually rather nicely written as an overview of alot of things.

Yeah, it was a shame Mike Wickham's book got pulled when the series was taken over by its rival. I thought it was outstanding.

David E. Boruchowitz, The Simple Guide to Freshwater Aquariums, TFH (no date, but 2001) is the one currently in print I'd recommend as a First Fishbook. I'll bet it's available in Singapore too.
