Do neon tetras attack and eat their own kind?
Has anyone had this problem?
My friend has a new planted tank and has just added 6 neons and it appears that they have attacked, killed and eaten 2 of their own in 3 days.
They have been fed normal tropical flake food.

more likely, 2 of them died and the others were eating the carcasses. prettymuch all fish will eat other dead fish and since neon's aren't all that hardy, especially if he was cycling the tank with them. kyle
I would have to aggree with the the above post. Often people would rather believe that their fish are aggressive then that they died because that might mean it is their fault. But sometimes fish just die, especially in new tanks. I had a darn hard time trying to convince my friend that their apple snail probably didn't kill their molly. But since the snail was perched ont he corpse eating away that is what they believed.

snails will try and catch fish if they don't move or at least mine does. I have two cories in my hospital tank in which my two apple snails call home. You know how cories will sit motionless for a while, my golden mystery tried to catch him and I'm sure eat him. I watched to make sure the cory escaped and he did as soon as the snail started onto him. Kyle
