How many Kuhli loaches would be a good number to have in a 55G? the only other bottom dwelling fish is a BN pleco. Also in the tank are 2 angels, and 18 neon/black neons.
I currently have some weather loaches in there, but am planning to return them to the store (hopefully to trade on the kuhlis).
Thanks.

I'd say you could have +/-20, their bioload is quite small. The more you have the more you'll see them

^^ what he said, I have 8 in my 29g and they stay pretty active at that number. If I didn't also have 6 cories in there I'd probably up mine to about 16.

You could put a bazillion in a 55!!! They have fairly low bioload.

Excellent! I was hoping to get a good number in there. Just wanted to confirm. Now to source some locally, and then attempt to catch 5 highly active weather loaches from a planted 55G.

Good luck! I had 13 in a 40g long (same footprint as 55g) plus 3 v.maasii, similar to kuhlis, & they were far from crowded. The older striped were more sedate but upfront, the black more active. If you mix them try to have at least 6 of each species.
