View Full Version : Air Pump
My air pump is very loud, and I was wondering if there is any way of absorbing and of the vibration?
I think it is an Interpet Air Pump, and it sit behind my tank on a wooden table.

You can wrap it in foam or a towel.
If you do not like the airpump - you can get rid of it. They are not necessary as most filters provide enough surface agitation to account for adequate oxygen saturation:)

Here are some ideas:
Try putting the pump on top of a folded hand towel (or some such) to absorb the vibrations and prevent the table from being a soundboard.
If the noise emanates from within the pump itself, wrap the pump in a towel and put it in a shoebox. Cut a couple of holes in the shoebox for the electric cord and the airline. Check frequently for the first couple of hours/days to see if this creates an overheating problem.
Get more airline and put the pump in a room where the noise doesn't bother you.
Buy a different model pump.

planted tank...you may want to get rid of air pump...needed co2 is lost quicker with air stones etc..........
Thanks for the ideas, I'll try them soon! ;)

On second thought...I just looked at your tank specifications. Don't take out your airpump. That tank is overstocked IMO and the fish will gladly take the "extra" oxygen provided to them...
I know it is overstocked, because every time my dad sees a fish he likes, he buys it and won't listen to me trying to tell him we already have too many!!

Yeah, well maybe you could show him this link or other links that prove your point --- that you dont need anymore fish...but that if he wants more fish, he should buy you a larger tank! ;)
I'm going to try and either keep him away from Aquaria Shops, or tell him all of whats going to happen if he buys more (even though he never listens)!

By the way, Rena Air Pumps are the best in my opinion. They are very quiet and long lasting - the best..

I would talk Dad into a bigger tank, I wish I had that problem. But taking him fishing isn't a bad idea either. My Dad always wanted me to keep a channel cat so he could use it to determine feeding habits. Never could understand that fish in a tank don't respond the same to food.

Bala sharks and pleco get to be like 30 cm long. Redtails about 15 cm long. Too big for your tank.
Well, he has finally said we have enough, and we are getting no more!! :D :D
Also I am having a look at a new bigger tank! :)
