I know, I post many a Question. I just like to get lots of input...further my eh, fish experience.
Questionnnnnnnnn
1. What all do you feed your bettas? I'd like to feed them more than brine shrimp, pellets, and flakes.
2. Hey, how the HECK do you water change your 50+ gallon aquariums? My 100 is such a pain in the butt to water change. I eventually had to get a 10 foot hose and throw it out my window, and only have a 3 gallon hexagon aquarium to refill it with. Boyboyboy I'd like to know how you guys do it, Lol. I have tons of patience, but my back does not.
3. Any body have specific types of sponge filters for a small betta breeder tank? I saw a corner one with vertical slits, but I was unsure if it was a reliable. I saw ones called "Sharks" that were squarish, small, and had just a blue sponge inside that caught the dirt. I'm hoping to breed my bettas, just because their colors are very gorgeous. That and I have to find out where to sell the babies when they're old enough. And where to put them when they grow.
4. For everyone who has bred bettas: Out of all the eggs, how many have hatched and survived for you? I'd just like a general idea, to know what to prepare for. ANy other advice about this would be nice, I've done a plenty of research on it, but nothing beats personal advice!!

THANKS! :D

When I had my betta, I fed him pellets and flakes.. nothing more. He lived for nearly 2 years before he died. He did eat the occassional baby snail that I crushed though.

Look into getting a python for doing your water changes... it is very convient. What I do is, after I get the siphon going (via turning on the tap and waiting for the entire length of tubing to fill with water) I disconnect the tube from the tap (with the tap still going) and transfer the tube to the toilet bowl. Its quieter, and wastes less water =).

I have limited experience with a sponge filter.. I've only tried those grey clyinder ones made by hagen (I think?). As far as I know, they all work the same... air is forced down a tube, and allowed to go up. The resulting movement of air, causes a decrease of water pressure in the general area and causes the water to move up through the rigid tube. As a result, water moves through the sponge. I would probably get the largest sponge filter you can find, and that should do it.

for my 29s, 30, 38, 75s & 100G tank, I use a 35 FOOT hose & let it go out the door & into the grass... to refill I use the water hose, unless I feel like superman (then it's buckets) ;-)

Live blackworms make a great occasional treat for bettas. I also like the Hikari betta pellets, I think they're a lot better than some of the freeze-dried bloodworm "betta foods".

Get a python for water changes. I resisted buying one for about a year before I caved, and I've never once regretted it. You just hook the hose to the tap and drain the water the same way you would with any gravel vaccuum, then reverse it and start filling from the tap, adding water conditioner as you go. It takes a TON less time.

I third the motion to get a python. It's worth the money. Also, if you do get the Python, spring for the brass faucet adapter. The plastic adapter that comes with the kit is prone to failure due to crossed threads...at least in my experience.

And the "toilet bowl" is a pretty good one. I prefer to leave it connected - the added suction helps gravel cleaning.
