I have a question for ya'll. I have 2 Male Bettas, 1 in a 2 1/2 gallon and 1 in a 5 gallon. I know that you can't put 2 in 1 tank, but do you think that you could if you put them in a big enough tank. I have a 72 gallon that I want to put Cichlids in, but don't have any ideas on what I can put in with Pseudotropheus Acei and I wanted to but my 2 Bettas in it for now. Do you think that this would be ok, or should I just leave everything the way that it is? BTW, the 72 at this time only houses 1 Betta.
This is a real question, so please, if you are gonna get mad and yell at me, please don't post. Everyone has been touchy on the boards lately and I have been kinda worried about posting this question.

IME any betta that can find another male will flare and eventually fight. I would reccomend against putting them in the same tank.

I have heard of it working in large enough tanks but I suppose there is always a chance of fighting. You could look for the S.L. Malaysian species (they dont fight) and put them together though.

People really are touchy, Ive noticed it too. Probably hearing one too many cases of 10 bala sharks in a 1 gallon bowl :)

I personally wouldn't try it. I had a friend that did this in a 125. He even bragged that they had been peacefully coexisting in there for a year and a half. The tank was heavily planted. I don't think they found each other. But, alas, one day he came home to a very beat-up, dead Betta. He said the guy's fins were destroyed. I guess they finally found each other and had it out.

My advice, don't do it.

I'm not yelling. I have noticed people are gettin a little touchy myself. But, you must ask if you're gonna find out, right?
I think some are getting frustrated because they give their advice and then the person asking just does what they want to regardless of what was advised.

You can try it...

I myself had two male bettas in a 75g with 3 females no problem. They often swam inches of each with not so much as a flare. However, if you stick those same fish in a smaller tank, the trouble starts.

My advice, try it if you want on a day you are going to be home all day long. Then once you put them in there, watch them very carefully. If flaring turns to chasing, it's not going to work out and one needs to be removed.

HTH

IMO - Do not do it. It isn't worth the risk. Often, they will get along (in a HUGE tank) at first. Maybe more so if they are young. One day (or night) they will snap. I can PM you a link if you are interested about a girl doing this on another forum. She didn't believe us because they were "getting along great" and everyone said "watch out -theyll snap." Long story short, and 8 pages of threads later, she comes back and says "You're right. I had to separate them. They snapped."

I just think that they'll be much safer in their own homes - where they belong:D

I won't do it. I didn't want to see which one was stronger or better than the other one either. I just wanted to have something in that 72 gallon, and 1 Betta just seems like not enough :) Thanks for all the replies... and for being nice :D

Thank YOU for not being confrontational:D Most topics like this turn out ugly. They're called siamese fighting fish for a reason:p

in a 72 gallon, you've got plenty of room for other fish - if you want something with great fins that's gorgeous - I suggest a male pearl gourami:D

Ok, I just put my Moonlight Gourami in with him :) see, what I am doing is getting rid of most of my fish, so I am giving my Molllies and maybe my Platys to my LPS on Friday. Maybe my Platys is because my friend is buying one of my 20 gallons from me and I am in charge of picking out the fish (yippie !!!!) so, I am thinking of giving her the Platys. I will then transfer the Gourami to the 30 gallon, and the Betta back to the 5 gallon.
