anyone ever had any luck with flame scallops? ive read some on them but i get conflicting stories. some articles say they are easy to care for some say the are fragile. they say it has to do with them being picky eaters about the size and flavor of the food. they are pretty cheap, around 6 bucks here, and very colorful. my girlfreind would like to have one but i told her i would have to check first. so has anyone had any? did you have any luck with them? exactly what did you feed? thanks for the imput ahead of time.

IMM, they are tough to keep well fed. They need a lot of particulate matter in the water. Unlike many other filter feeders, they won't get by with daily target feeding--they seem to need to have food more often. Had one about 2 years ago, and I though it was doing well--had settled in, and was always out, seemed reactive and healthy. It died after about 3-4 months, and I suspect it starved to death slowly. I target fed invert food and frozen formula 1 that was crushed into small bits.

thats what one of the articles i read said. if they are healthy when you get them it takes 3-6 months for them to starve to death. but i had also read one that said as long as you fed them small food particles, they would last forever. thanks again.
They can under the right conditions Jessie but, I woldn't try in a traditional reef where you use a lot of protien skimming. They really do well in a peacefull tank set up where you limit your skimming, "if you use any at all", to just a couple of hours a day. They will do very well in a tank where they can get frequent feedings or liquid invert food and plankton," heavy on uni-celular algae IME". Mine are doing well in a tank with softies, duster worms and other filter feeders but, sps corals will not like this situation at all!. They also don't seem to like tanks that have a lot of current.
