I want to buy like 4 100 gallon tanks. and then put them together into a circle. with one part of the tank having 4 power heads or so to create a flowing river type atmosphere.

something like that. from what ive resarched it would probly be cheaper for me to do that. instead of buying all the seperate materials. this will probly take abou ta year to finish. im going to upgrade from my 40 gallon this summer to one 100 gallon tank for my oscar.

i dont really get it? are you going to connect them somehow? i dont think it would be big enough. have you thought about a pond something like a 12x3 or so pump intakes all on 1 side and letting them pump the current to the other?
 
I agree with blitzen. Go with a pond. An indoor pond is a really cool thing.
 
I would agree with the pond idea UNLESS YOur thought is to have this at eye level for viewing through the side of the "tank" I personally think this would make an awesome river or stingray set-up, but you are in for a lot of work as well as a lot of trial and error games with current and decor (keeping things in place)
 
but real rivers arent eye level ;) im sure almost everyone would rather have a tank than a pond but the whole cost and ease levels i would go with ponds. if hes going for a biotope type setup most river fish will look better from above than from the sides.

I fully agree, I just thought it would be cool to see the pics when the work was done. Bass Pro shop in sprinfield MO has glass sides on portions of their trout exibit, don't discout the side view on river fish It's pretty awesome.
 
My favorite LFS has a custom built 400gallon that is in the shape of an empty square
and I apologize if this image is rather clunky.

Edit: Okay, this image is hopeless, but the icon that vBulletin uses for a failed picture link is actually about right :D

The tank is made of plexi, is only about 12-15 inches deep, and has a huge breeding colony of various Lake Malawi cichlids. It's very old, and they have never updated the filtration, so it's got a whole bunch of UGFs, thus making the overall water movement a very gentle downflow. I imagine you could put powerheads at each corner and turn it into a sort of closed-loop river.

thats sorta the idea I had.


it was sposed to be a circle with a circle inside it. I got this idea like 6 years ago when I wanted to make a room in my parents house one big tank. but that wasn't going to work. so I thought about it some more and that was back when I watched home building showes and was like, I could make the walls fish tanks. I thought it would be cool to have in the middle of a room or something. instead of like TV or something in a livingroom. do that.
 
well if things work out ok for me, and I get this quiznos job I had an interview at this weekend. I will be able to get a 210 gallon tank in a few months. yay me, then ill be on a start. have a big "main" tank. or something.
