View Full Version : Should I contact the vendor about their pH?

I haven't started my CO2 and since the tank is empty, I can wait until after the plants (online order) are in it to do so. Should I contact the vendor about their pH and either wait to start up the CO2 (my pH is 7.6) or start it up and get it to where I want it (help me out here...6.8...7?) depending on what their pH is.
Sound like a good idea or not worth the trouble?

Thanks!

What plants are you ordering? Some seem more sensitive to changes than others. I've only had problems with crypts reacting to a change in pH--anubias, swords, indica, moneywort, dwarf lillies, wide and dwarf sags have all been fine. I do acclimate my plants somewhat--I have them all float in a tub of change water for a couple weeks before introducing them to my tank.

Most plants are very adaptable to pH swing. Crypts being a possible exception. I've not had newly introduced Crypts melt on me. The ones I've had melt were established ones that I changed dosing regimens or slight CO2/pH change on or ones I looked at cross-eyed.
I always wait to plant new plants AND introduce fish until I've done a large water change. It seems to make transition easier for both.
If you don't want snails, don't forget the old Alum bath before planting them.
