New, larger tank. Wondering about stocking ideas.

I'm hyped. I have my 29 gallon tank setup and will be transferring the fish from my 16 gallon in another day or two.

I have a Fluval 204(180 gph) currently running on the 29g, and a Duetto 100(90 gph) that will be transferred from the old to the new tank when the fish get moved. I'm going to transfer everything from the old tank to the new one along with the fish.

Hopefully I can avoid any cycling this way.

I currently have 1 angelfish, 1 boesami rainbowfish, and 10 neon tetras.

When I'm sure the new tank is settled in well and stable I was planning on adding 4-5 cories. After that I was thinking about building up the neons numbers some more.

Would this stocking amount be ok? And if so, how many more neons do you think I could get away with?

I think I would leave the neon's in the 16 and put the other two in the 29 and add some more rainbows of different types. both the angel and boesmani will get large enough that the neon's will become food. we have a 29 that houses a single angel, 2 congo tetras, 3 celebese rainbows and 4 dwarf neon rainbows. I added a couple rainbow panchax from my 36 that were getting harassed and they're getting along well. Kyle

If you were to transfer everything then yes you should have a stable cycle going already so long as you didn't kill the bacteria in the moving process.

Not all that familiar with boesami rainbowfish, but I can attest that a nearly fully grown angelfish will make short work of a school of neons unless the tank is large enough and planted enough for the neons to get away.

Right, I know that angelfish will eat neons. I found that out after I already had them. I have heard, though, that when an angelfish is raised with neons(which this one has) they often don't think of the neons as food and leave them alone. So far the angelfish has completely ignored the neons and only hassles the rainbowfish from time to time.

I'm hoping that is what will happen here.

I'm not keeping the 16 gallon tank running. It is going to be converted into a hamster tank.

I was just wondering about the bioload.

bioload if tank is kept well should be ok. Especially with your filtration and would suspect your not over feeding. I would possibly add some sort of algae eater like a chinese algae eater, mine doesn't bother anything in the tank just sucks on the rocks etc.
