Has anyone removed some gravel in a tank and put in a patch of sand? I'm thinking of doing this as I get my tank planted. I think a 9x10 patch of sand would look decent enough and so long as I keep it plant free it would give a place for my corys to rumage around easier.

Some people have tried it with varying results. I suggest putting the sand in a dish and putting that in your tank. That way, if you decide you don't like the look, or your corys don't use it, then you can always easily remove it.

I just replaced it all with sand in 3 of my tanks... I find it a lot easier to clean the substrate (all stays on top for easy vaccuuming)

I think the fish would like it as most fish had a sand or soil substate in nature. I would love to go to a sand bottom but not sure how well I can make the change with 3 tanks already estabilished maybe the 10 I am getting ready to set up after I pick it up I will change it from gravel to sand and make it a planted tank? I don't know why you would have problems with it.
