Ok here it goes:

Ok my birthday is coming up and my mom already let me get a new fish...

So i couldnt help myself and got an Oscar, i know about there growth etc, so i need a little help though.

Right Now i have him in a Ten Gallon (Hes only about an inch long, runt of his tank at the store, who is pretty reliable) with other small fish, (Minnows, two small barbs, Chinese Algae eater, and a small crawfish; please dont scold me for this) and hes acting a little funny, i got him on wendsday so its been a few days; i havent seen him actually eat yet, he was active before but now he is continuously laying on the substrate. I have been irresponsible, i am fixing this tommaro by getting a heater and tank ammonia/nitrate checking kit(s). I did cycle the tank and waited intervals for the fish. Please do not scold me for any of this, i will be repairing my responsibility.

Now, eventually i will be getting a 55 gallon for the oscar. Now that seems a little empty, i was thinking also one Green Terror as a tank mate? i will also be getting a new powerful filter so i am prepared. Also could i ad a species of Pleco??

My little brother has a 5 gallon Bow tank, with a filter, a few questions for him, right now he has a few fish in there, (Minnows and Ghost shrimp) and the filter seems too strong for the fish to swim, is this a problem?? Its a Regent Filter, the smallest one they make, it came with the tank.

Also my brother wants to get Dwarf Puffer(s) i was thinking one with some other form of fish, in a well planted aquarium, the same 5 gallon, what would be some suggestions, thanks!

Hi,
I would be concerned that your tank is to cold for the fish with no heater. You also need to worry about filtration. It sounds like you have a lot of fish in a small tank. Do you test for pH? I know you said you are going to get ammonia and nitrate kits tomorrow. Bring a sample of your water to the store with you. Alot of times they can test it right there and advise what needs to be done. Also I would be concerned that when your Oscar is doing better he might eat his tank mates. Oscars are carnivores and will eat live fish. They are also very messy. You will need to do lots of water changes. As for your brothers tank it sounds like he has a lot of fish in a 5 gal tank already. I think he should stick to what he has and work on upgrading to a bigger setup before he adds any other fish. Good luck.

ok #1 i also need to test ph, as i said, all of the fish in the ten gallon are small barely exceding and inch, if even they are. All of the fish except the oscar were $.12 for the minnows and $.99 for the others, so i understand him eating them

#2 this is after my brother deals with this tank, i will probably take the minnows after i move the oscar, so this is farther away...
