I have this burgandy color looking algae and its everywhere and its growing fast. It is kind of slimy.

Are there any additives or solutions i can use to make it go away?

My specs.

37g (about 2 Months old)
40 or so lbs of LR
3" DSB
Fluval canister filter
AquaC Remora Pro Skimmer (used for about 3weeks)

Sounds like cyanobacteria- the dreaded red slime!
There are several steps you can take to eliminate it- starting with your source water. Are you using RO water? Sometimes tap water has phosphates in it and that will encourage cyano.
Overfeeding anything? Excess feeding can also contribute to the nutrient load in the water column.
Got enough circulation? Cyano thrives in high nutrient low circulation water- sometimes just adding more powerheads is enough to help cure it.
A higher pH is said to help deter cyano- something near 8.3. Also calcium and alkalinity levels need to be kept up to encourage coraline algae as well as discouraging the bad algaes.

There are scads of posts on this very common problem- it is something most folks go through to varying degrees. Sometimes it clears right up, other times it is a battle. Just check the easy things first- source water, overfeeding, low circulation, and water chemistry.

Ah Thanks Cearbhaill,

I buy my salt water from the LFS but i used to use Distilled water for top offs until very recently I purchased a RO unit.

As far as overfeeding, I don't think that is the problem.

Circulation may be one of the culprits. I have a tall 37g at 24" high so i have a problem getting circulation all the way down there.

I guess i'm going to pick up a powerhead.

I was looking at the MaxiJet 1200. Any comments on that one?

Thanks again.
