Adding more fish to tank. Which fish(es) should i get next? I have yellow and black tetra's in the 25 gallon tank right now and a pitbull pleco

6 neon tetra's
2 green swordtails
2 red brick swordtails
6 zebra danios
1 siamese fighting fish
6 serpae tetra's
2 red wag platy's
2 sunset variatus
2 common guppy's
1 red tail shark

It really depends what kind of fish YOU want to get. I would be careful with the Serpae tetras as they are known fin-nippers. The betta may or may not be ok in the tank. It all depends on the temperment of the betta. Rainbow sharks won't have enough territory in a 29G to be happy. They can be aggressive and may attack your plec. You should have at least 3 livebearers (1M, 2F) of each species you keep.

I would stay clear of the betta (fighting fish). The black skirt tetras will probably nip its fins.

Perhaps a dwarf gouramis might be a fun choice. Check them out.

Out of curiosity how many of each fish species do you have currently. Also you say you have black and yellow tetra, but what kind are they exactly? I'm thinking you probably have black skirt tetra and lemon tetra, but there are others that are black or yellow.

Hi,
I personally have had luck with platies. They come in wonderful colors. I have 5 currently. Each one is different. I was going to get all 1 color. My LFS talked me into different colors to liven up the tank. Let us know what you get. Good luck.

Platy's sound cool and they do come in lots of colors, thanx for the info. Are they easy to maintain?

Yes. Most (but not all) livebearers are easy to keep and breed. Some people like to have some salt in the water when keeping livebearers but it's not necessary. Other then that get a good quality mix of foods and do regular water changes.

P.S. the "salt for livebearers" argument is a big thing. Do a search of this forum or of any fish site and you will find articles about it. Make your own decision on the salt.
