What are your opinions on using a plenum in a reef? Has anyone here had long-term success with it?
We installed one on the 125g when we set it up 3 years ago and I thought things were going ok with it until we lost the fish and hermits for unknown reasons. Could it have been caused by something toxic building up in the plenum? The one problem we have had over the past 3 years is the red slime that keeps coming back and covering everything.
Would we be better off taking the whole plenum out and sticking with a DSB? It would be kinda tricky but we could take it out right now since there's no fish or inverts in there to deal with. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks!

plenums are extremely similar to DSBs in both function and stability.

I doubt it was sand bed related at all.

Thanks for the quick reply, Slipknottin. I really wasn't looking forward to trying to remove it.
