Hi, this may be a stupid question.. I have a 55 gallon tank that I have had up and running for about three months. When I do a water change, should I be moving everything over including live plants so I can vacuum the gravel? Should I be moving everything around to vacuum, or just vacuum around everything (like I do in my totally messy house ;) ) Should I disturb the live plants or leave them????

Thanks

Don't bother moving your live plants, just vacuum the gravel around them, being careful not to damage the plants roots.

Hi,
I don't move my plants. I just vaccuum around them. As Richer said just be careful not to damage the roots.

No vacuuming at all

I never have vacuumed my planted tanks. Before I got my Malaysian Trumpet Snails (MTS) I would wave my hand over the gravel when I was changing water, to get some of the fluffy mulm up so I could siphon it away. But, now the snails take that down into the gravel so the plants can use it. MTS, vey useful for planted tanks, but they do eat fish eggs and tend to get into filters.
