i was wondering if a pacific conch would try and eat a turbo snail? i saw them on the bottom of the tank stuck together this morning. or is this the horizontal mombo? i pulled them apart, not sure if that was smart or not.

thanx

Some conch species are predatory, but I haven't heard about problems with the ones normally sold for aquaria, like fighting conchs.

I have read that many conch's are predatory...I have 2 and haven't noticed them attacking anything.

could they possibly have gotten confused and try to mate? and me being stupid pulling them apart killed the turbo?

Are you sure the turbo wasn't already dead? Maybe the conch was taking advantage of a free easy meal. I've seen this happen many many times.......

possibly, but if he was dead, it wasnt for more than a few hours. makes sense though. although the snails seemed to be doing ok

I have an aquarium full of conchs because they clean up my sand real nice while my snails stick to my rock and glass. They've never killed my snails or anything else, but i had a sick and dying fish once who died overnight and they were eating him. Whenever I go out to grass beds around my area I ocassionaly find large dead fish and inverts that are crawling with conchs. I doubt they used advanced group hunting skills. So I'd class them as oppertunistic scavengers

I think it really depends on the species. Some, like the horse conch, are active hunters.
